What this does: Say you want update your Myspace & Facebook status, and also post to Twitter. Normally you would have to login to each site and post to each one.. Gaaaay! This will allow you to only type your status once, hit the submit button, and BAM! It will update all 3 with one click.
This works for far more than just the 3 networks mentioned, like: GTalk Status, AIM Status, Plurk, LinkedIn, Tumblr, Identi.ca, Brightkite, FriendFeed, Jaiku, Blogger, Plaxo Pulse, LiveJournal, Bebo, hi5, Mashable, kwippy, Xanga, WordPress.com, Rejaw, Delicious, Friendster, Yahoo 360, Koornk, Diigo, YouAre, Multiply, Yammer, Flickr, Utterli, imeem, seesmic, Laconi.ca, Present.ly, Vox, TypePad and more!
There’s actually quite a few ways to accomplish this. Even though this “how-to” includes iPhone apps, there are many options in which you can post. So you can still post across networks regardless of having an iPhone.
Option 1.) Ping.fm
- Head on over to Ping.fm and create an account.
- Add the social networks you have accounts with.
- You can now start posting updates! (after setting permissions on appropriate networks, like facebook)
* I didn’t go into detail on how to setup accounts because there are help guides on ping.fm already.
- Ping.fm also support updates via SMS & MMS (text & picture messages)!
- iPhone users, there is an app called Pingle in the app store for $1.99. This is a pretty straight forward app that uses your Ping.fm account to post updates. Check out the demo below.
Option 2.) PixelPipe
- Setup an account at PixelPipe.
- Add the social networks you have accounts with.
- Start posting!
* I didn’t go into detail on how to setup accounts because there are help guides on pixelpipe already.
- You can also upload images via email. While signed into PixelPipe, navigate to settings and at the bottom of the page you will see “Upload by Email” followed by an email address. You set the caption of the image from the email subject line.
- iPhone users, there is an app available for free in the app store. Just do a quick search for “pixelpipe”.
- iPhone users, you can also add the “Upload by Email” address to your contacts, and email photos semi-directly from the camera roll. I prefer this way rather than using the app.
I personally use Pingle to update only my status messages. I had less than satisfying results with posting images though (posting links in status instead of uploading to albums). So for uploading photos I use the email solution with pixelpipe (I didn’t like the iPhone app). It’s still not ideal, but until a new app is made or discovered, this is what I’ve found to be the best combination.
I’ve also tried:
Tweetie, the best Twitter app hands down, and also supports Ping.fm. I keep Tweetie strictly Twitter though. (say that 5 times fast!)
Yahoo oneConnect app, it’s slow, buggy, and crashes often… nope.
Xumii, had to sign up with a mobile number?! no thanks.
There it is! Sorry for the half-assed guide. If I went into detail on each step it would’ve ended up being way too long to hold anyone’s attention for longer than a few seconds. I little bit a googling will solve any problems you are having with any service.
