I got bored and decompiled the new myspace slideshow. didn’t find anything special until… BAM! a url to the xml used to grab all the pictures from any myspace account.
so what does this mean?
it means this is yet ANOTHER way to view “private” profile pictures. but this way you sacrifice thumbnails for image captions. which is pretty nifty considering that a lot of users utilize captions as an opportunity to post more pictures of themselves.
This no longer works for private profiles!
what can i do with this?
besides view private pics.. you can do quite a lot of things with flash.
1. make your own slideshow.
2. make a flash movie that loads a picture gallery for any friend ID you want (ex. an input box in the movie that loads the gallery of any friend ID that you enter)
3. get creative! think of something i can’t..

*of course replace the XXXXX’s with a valid friend ID.

haha! i actually downloaded a decompiler a while back cuz i forgot to save the .fla of something i was working on. i never had the urge to decompile anything til myspace disabled our flash and allowed thier own..
I thought about that too. I haven’t had time to decompile yet.

do you really think its a good idea to tell people how to view the pictures of private profiles? think about the 14 and 15 year olds and you might catch on
Sam: i honestly don’t think these kids should be on the site anyway. but it’s inevitable, just like this url getting spread around the forums (which it already was before i posted it). it’s only pictures though, there’s no way to get any info or contact anyone with a private profile.
and besides, if someone figured it out, another person will too.. it’s myspace’s fault they left this wide open for anyone and should’ve fixed it a long time ago.

yeah but i’m not one to go take the time to write myspace about their own problems.. afterall, everytime i need a favor, it takes 3 weeks to get a the response “sorry, we can’t help you”. maybe if they’d make this site a little more user friendly, i’d help them out.. but until they start making us happy, i’m not gonna waste my time.

whats the link to view just the image not the thumbnail?
open the image by itself (use image url) then change the “blah blah_m.jpg” to “blah blah_l.gif”

i bet jon could ad on to his grease monkey script to view private profile images so when you click the thumbnails it takes you to the larger one..
that script would be super easy to write (i already did) but just like on the homepages.. greasemonkey doesn’t work on the “collect” server. why? i have no idea!
