After so many of my friends asked me “how do I? & where do I?” questions.. I decided to type this up so I can send you a link rather than talk on the phone for 30 minutes.. This “how-to” will explain how to download and search for torrents. So what is a torrent? Without getting too technical, it’s free shit. If you really care enough beyond that point.. do a google search.
First things first, you need a BitTorrent Client (program to download torrent files). I personally use uTorrent but there are MANY others that I have yet to make a comparison with, I get the fastest speeds with uTorrent so I’ll recommend it.

After you download and install uTorrent, you’re ready to start searching for goodies to download! I use 2 search engines to search for torrent files:
Both of these sites have their advantages. MiniNova seems to give more search results which usually end up with higher download speeds (more seeders). But one thing I love about TorrentSpy is that they allow user comments for each torrent. This is so awesome because you don’t have to learn the hard way that the program you just downloaded was filled with spyware and viruses.. All you have to do is read the kid’s comment about how this killed his mom’s pc to know not to download that one. Users also give quality reviews on dvdrips, which is food for thought.
I’ll show you what to do after you’ve done the steps above. This example we’ll be using Firefox as our browser, TorrentSpy as our search engine, and uTorrent as out BitTorrent Client.
Step 1.
Search!
Step 2.
Search Results. (click the one you want to download)
Step 3.
Download the File.
Step 4.
After clicking the download link, you will get a popup asking you what you want to do with the file. Make sure your settings match the ones pictured below.
Step 5.
When opening the torrent file with uTorrent, you will get a popup. Check the settings and download only the files you want.
Step 6.
Click OK and wait for it to finish.. and there you have it. I am taking no responsibility if you download something that screws up your machine, just like any other p2p program, BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU DOWNLOAD!

i cant believe people still dont git torrentz. it been out since before napster died. nice article, but azureus is the best bittorrent client.

question, Is there a way to erase your tracks? Like, have it so the MPAA or the music people don’t find out that you downloaded music/movie/game. I got caught up last year! :( I downloaded Hitman and we got a letter from our internet provider that we were under investigation because it was believed that we were downloading games. (my fault). I downloaded an emulator off of thepiratebay and i got the actual games off of a website. I downloaded Friday the 13th and not even 1 week later we got another letter that we would be contacted by there legal department. WTF? how does everyone cover there asses?!? help plz!

If you use Azureus, check out their forums for a reference to G List which lists all the RIAA and other domains used by Private Eyes prosecuting downloaders. The list blocks your computer from connecting to their domains so it makes it much harder for them to get your I.P. address.
Once installed, it updates the list of hosers periodically and automatically…which is why I forget the exact details.
