I don’t know about you but I could care less about how much my friends are “WORTH”, or a virtual pet that some stranger bought me, or the notification comment that apparently someone has obtained my soul and now “owns me”. Or anything else that Myspace has ripped off from Facebook… So today I was playing around in my account settings and discovered that there IS a way to block all that crap from spamming your comments.
Simply go to your account settings, then Applications.
*note, if you are logged into Myspace, the link above will take you right there.
When you’ve arrived at this settings page, scroll down a bit to the “Application Privacy” section and CHECK “Don’t share any data.”
Right below that, there is a “Application Communication Settings” section with a checkbox. UN-CHECK the box that says “Allow applications to send me messages and comments”.
There ya go!

Or you could require CAPTCHA for all comments (Account Settings -> SPAM -> scroll to “comments” then check the box requiring CAPTCHA for all comments. Annoying? Sure. But then again, you’ll only have real people and not bots leaving you comments. Which to most of us is worth it.
Didn’t know apps could send me messages too – but then again, nonfriends need CAPTCHA on me too. Any new area where new settings are involved are worth sniffing out in any case.
Thanks, JB! xox
hello –
i run a bands myspace.. and these apps are insane and annoying… I actually have to block comments (well require approval, that will never come) because we have over 170,000 friends and 1 app request every 5-7 minutes…. yuck!
we unchecked this box, blocked all the evil apps (the own your friend and movies quizes are especially evil)… and deny our info.. and STILL… every 2-4 days… this box somehow checks itself again……… we have HTML comments turnned on so the app comments strech our layout its riducious.
any idea?????
it just keeps happening…
Turn off your html comments. That keeps PICS from stretching your layout. Doh !
Google “resize html comments myspace” without the quotes – there are several helpful solutions to auto-resize the comments to fit your layout.
I know it’s not a solution, like the previous comment isn’t, but may prevent some frustration…
Hope it helps!
