When it comes to this OSx86 business.. I’m clueless, but after 3 days, 5 packs of smokes, endless google searches, and joining numerous forums just to download a file that didn’t work anyway. I did it, I fuckin did it! I’ve successfully installed an almost fully functional version of the new Leopard on my PC. I say “almost” because I can’t get the damn ethernet working, but I still have more mountain dew and cigs on my desk so who knows…

Anywho, The most difficult problem I had was getting my video card to work (high resolution, accelerated graphics, ect). I tried a bunch of installers, hacks, device ID’s and the best I ever ended up with was a black screen with a 2 mouse pointers. It was at full resolution though! haha everything seemed to work with -x (safe boot) but it was super slow. blah blah I was about to throw in the towel until I stumbled across this thread by Punk92. I uninstalled all of the old kexts and ran the v3.0 Beta Installer then rebooted with low hopes. Hellfire it worked! I didn’t have to edit anything either, it just worked on the first boot after the install.
VRAM (Total): 512 MB (nice!)
Resolution: 1680 x 1050 @ 60 Hz (boosh!)
Core Image: Hardware Accelerated (fuck yes!)
Quartz Extreme: Supported (oh i love your face!)

I did end up reinstalling the whole system and ran into a few problems getting it to work again, but this block of text is probably already too big as it is :p Just grab yourself a copy of the Kalyway disc that’s floating around, install it without any video drivers selected, the run Punk92’s installer. Oh yeah, and “cross your fingers”.

Issues & Solutions (that worked for me)
- Had problems with Nvinject 0.2.1 so I used Nvinject 0.2.0 (512mb)
- If I have the second monitor plugged into the other DVI on boot, I get a black screen instead of a desktop. Works fine after the desktop loads, I just have to crawl under the desk to plug it in everytime..
- Nvinject 0.2.1 may work because I had both monitors plugged in when I tested it. I don’t feel like updating 0.2.0 just yet because everything seems to be working just fine.

So right now I’m sitting pretty with my dual 22’s running fully awesome. Hope this will save some of you with similar cards the headache of countless hours spent searching the web. Now if only I can get the ethernet working. grrrr!

Edit: typing this on my mac.. online!

If you missed the link above to Punk92’s Installer, here it is again.

  1. Hold on… are you serious????? Are you running the APPLE Leopard on your PC??? I know you just said exactly that but…… are you serious??? That is RAD! YOU are brilliant! Holy moly, just knowing that is worth the ten bucks I gave you! Unreal.

  2. Awesome, nice work. I’m using the same nVidia card. What are the Specs of the PC your running it on. I’ve tried to do this before with Tiger but after I get it installed I tried to install something (don’t remember what it was) and it crashed and had to reformat the entire drive.

Anyway great site, keep up the good work.

  3. Hey man, thanks for this post! You’re a fucking google miracle. I’d already spent 2 days trying to install different versions (ToH, iATKOS, Kalyway), and Kaly was the one that worked :) Till I got sick of staring at a 1024×768 resolution on my 22’s and discovered you.

So, again, thanks! the links on insanelymac aren’t working, so after a little searching I found a working link… at least as of tonight:
