Well.. The title pretty much says it all. It’s pretty pointless but if you get bored you can mess with anyone you’d like :P Metasyntactic had made a post about this a while back.. I just wrote the script to make it more convenient.
What this does is add a little black box in the bottom left hand corner of the profile you’re viewing. This little black box contains two links, one to set the user online, and one to set them offline.

Click the one of your choice and bam! that’s it. Just refresh the page and check it out (unless they replaced their online now image with another picture) in that case you’re going to have to just trust me.. it works. Or you can go to someone else’s page and see (comments, top 8, friends list, ect). yada yada enough beating around the bush (hot!) To install this read below.
Q. What do I need to get to install this?
A. Follow the 4 steps below, then comeback and click the install link.
1.
2. Install the GreaseMonkey extension (get it here)
3. Restart Firefox (or close it & re-open it. you might wanna bookmark this page)
I’ve removed the script because this no longer works, Myspace changed the way user status is set :/
PS. it doesn’t work for Tom :/
Should be noted that if you dont have greasemonkey, you can crack open that script and with a little manual labor, do this manually.
true, but i didn’t try to hide it.. i just made this to make it about 20 times easier than doing it manually. and you don’t have to “crack open” anything, just look at the status bar when hovering the links :P
This is true for Firefox users, but for those people who don’t care for Firefox, we have no choice ;)
(Yeah, I don’t care for Firefox, I should be burned at the stake.)
I’ve been thinking about writing a GreaseMonkey clone for IE7. Would make this kind of think a lot easier. Perhaps Xml Based though, as GreaseMonkey’s format is pretty sloppy.
Very amusing. I didn’t want to get the toolbar, but oh well. At least it’s not the yahoo toolbar.
Worked for me!
well i’m not one of those firefox die-hards.. all browsers have their flaws, i use firefox mainly for the extensions (like greasemonkey).
not sure if this works, but opera also has a user-scripts functionality that probably wouldn’t be to hard to write this same script for.
wooo this works with safari’s cream monkey.
cheers drew.
is this legal?
yes.. myspace put my friend in jail for using this.
hes currently in jail serving 25 years.
How do u get on there site??
most prisons offer wi-fi now.
How do u get on there myspace? you said you can but im not sure how.
How come this only works for some myspace profiles?
When I am on a profile that the black online/offline buttons dont appear and I click on the grease monkey icon, it says “no scripts installed”……but the scripts are installed b/c it is working on other profiles? CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!
dOES THIS WORK FOR PROFILES THAT ARE NOT PRIVATE?
Ok, figured out how to do it on all profiles….The only thing is that after you close that profile and go back to it, the “online icon” is no longer there…..does it turn on and off at will?
so im confused… does this allow you to see friends, comments, etc… on private profiles, maybe im a complete moron but i read the original post a thousand times and i cant figure exactly what i get aside from making that person appear online (and only on public profiles or my own friends) can someone explain please??? also grownupgeek sent an email about how they have a code for viewing private friends list but im not a private forum subscriber just thought id let you all know, appreciate the help
I think this is dead now, it doesnt change people to offline who are shown online anymore!!!!!!!!!!!
Is anyone else haveing this problem? I can make someone appear online, but cant take change them to offline…….now
some asshole put this on mine. now, how do i get it off ???
i love that
what up a.k.a shawnda well see you later
Is there any way to see when someone’s really online when they’ve selected to hide their online status in their account settings?
wtf wheres the script
”Is there any way to see when someone’s really online when they’ve selected to hide their online status in their account settings?”
Now that would be a good scirpt..the other scirpt is really useless for me..
function viewerIsLoggedIn() { return False; }
function getDisplayFriendID() { return XXXXXXXX; }
function currentUserIsFriend() { return False; }
Doesn’t it tell you when you click view page source?
False is offline
True is online
Unless I am reading this wrong. Forgive me I’m a noob.
