These Wordpress plugin lists are all over the web (like Firefox extension lists) and all depend on personal preference. But lists like the one below are the reason I have discovered the majority of my plugins in use, so hopefully you’ll find this as helpful as the others have been for me.

  • Akismet
If you run a Wordpress blog you know how annoying spam comments are.. This plugin will catch 95% of them and separate them from legit user comments, making moderation easier and ridding your posts of this plague.
  • Database Manager
A necessity. If you don’t regularly back up EVERYTHING (incl. your database) I feel sorry for you because sooner or later you’ll be in tears (or kicking cats and small children) when you lose an entire month/year’s worth of work. This allows you to optimize database, backup database, restore database, delete backup database , drop/empty tables and run selected queries. Be paranoid and just download it.

  • Paged Comments
This plugin will allow you to specify how many comments per-post can appear on the page at a time. If you receive tons of comments daily or just have a few popular posts that have hundreds of comments on them, you know why this is so awesome. It will cut down load times and organize everything just the way you want it.. From number of comments per-post to ascending to descending the order. To see this in action please visit one of my more popular posts here.
  • Quoter
The title says it all (except for it being used for comments), so yeah, this plugin adds a quote function for comments. Just like what you see in forums all over the place. I really think this should be a stock function for wordpress (same with almost every plugins on this page). To see this in use look at any of my posts that have comments.
  • My Link Order
Not everyone uses “blogroll” for site navigation, but I do. This will allow you to take control over all of your links and organize them the way you want. Complete control :)
  • Ultimate Tag Warrior
Allows you to “tag” your posts instead of just having the option to place it in a category. You can display a tag cloud (like my sidebar) or make an entire tag page to neatly organize all of your posts. This also generates a related post function (also being used on this site) to list a user-specified number of posts that have been similarly tagged. Super awesome!
  • Adsense Deluxe
If you’re poor like me and need every nickel you can get to run your blog, chances are you’ve made an Google Adsense account. With this plugin it makes placing the ads on your blog.. well.. it makes it about as easy as it can get. It has so many options like what pages ads can be displayed on to.. shit, just a whole lot of options. Placing them within a post is as easy as a drop down menu and a click.
  • Feedburner Replacement
Using some WordPress plugin magic, and user agent detection, this plugin simply forwards all your feed traffic to FeedBurner. The plugin will detect all ways to access your feed (e.g. http://www.yoursite.com/feed/ or http://www.yoursite.com/wp-rss2.php, etc.), and redirect them to your FeedBurner feed so you can track every possible subscriber. It will forward for your main posts feed, and optionally your main comments feed as well. All in all it gives you complete control over your blog’s feeds.
  • Post Views
Enables you to display how many times a post had been viewed. It will not count registered member views, but that can be changed easily. This is a great way to find out what your readers are looking at so you can be sure to post more related articles to keep them coming back. For an example of this plugin, just look at the bottom of every post on this site.
  • User Online
Ever wondered how many people are currently browsing your site? This enables you to display how many users are online on your Wordpress blog with detailed statistics of where they are and who there are(Members/Guests/Search Bots).
  • Search Meter
This is another way of indirectly getting visitor feedback to better your site. Find out what they’re looking for! This plugin will tell you exactly what a user searched your site for. Pretty wicked right!?
  • Contact Form
A highly customizable contact page that can’t get any easier to maintain. This will create a page.. well to see what it looks like and does, check out my Contact Page.
  • Wordpress Stats
Yet another fantastic plugin form Lester Chan.. Display your Wordpress blog statistics. Ranging from general total statistics, some of my plugins statistics and top 10 statistics. A must have for blog owners with OCD.

Wow.. I originally was only going to post “8 plugins I can’t blog without” but they just kept hitting me so I felt the need to share. I’ll more than likely post more and more once I discover them. If you have any suggestions for plugins to check out, any questions about plugins that I’m using that haven’t been posted above, or just let me know I helped you find your new fave.. leave a comment!

p.s. Akismet caught 79 spam comments while I was typing this post?!

yeah I posted this again because it got screwed up in the database when I transfered hosts.. damn! I guess I’ll just redirect the old url to this one so it doesn’t break anymore links.. damn! sorry if this trackbacks twice :/
